For those anglers who like trolling in deep waters, here is a video posted by Brian Helminen who has great advice for setting up your Dipsy Diver.

More of the Fishing Encyclopedia

In the previous post, we recommended Ken Schultz’s Fishing Encyclopedia & Worldwide Angling Guide.   During a recent visit to our  local library, we were delighted to find the hefty tome situated on display upon a book stand in the reference section of the library.   As you can see by the photos below, we could not resist thumbing through to the section on diving planers.

Ken Schultz's Fishing Encyclopedia shown as found on display at the local library.
Even without the dust-jacket cover art by Steve T. Goione, the book is beautiful.

Here the Encyclopedia is shown with pages turned to "Planer, Diving"

Our favorite Diver as seen on page 1265
Thumbing thorough the book, one cannot help but be impressed.  The amount of detail provided is evidence of the thorough research it took to publish this encyclopedia.  This is an excellent book to own.

Fishing Encyclopedia

For a complete reference resource on all things fishing, we recommend Ken Schultz's Fishing Encyclopedia - Worldwide Angling Guide.
This encyclopedia is a hefty tome of 1750 pages and includes every reference resource you could imagine, all about fishing. Matter of fact, if you look up "planers, diving" in this book, you will find a quarter page illustration of the Dipsy Diver, showing top and bottom views. Although the trademark is not included on the diver image and there is no reference at all to the image as a Dipsy Diver, you can tell by the anatomy of the diver that it is indeed, our favorite item.

This item would make an excellent gift for any angler whether rookie or veteran - and for it's size and the amount of information provided, the price is certainly affordable. You can purchase this book at Amazon.com, or your local book store.   Signed copies of this book are also available directly from the Author's website.

Getting the Lead Out

It looks like the future of Dipsy Diver might be at risk if the Environmental Protection Agency deems it necessary to ban all lead based hunting and fishing which is being pushed by the American Bird Conservancy.  D'Arcy Egan wrote about it in his recent article.  Read about the controversy here:

A proposed ban on lead in fishing tackle, which would have been a disaster for America’s anglers, has put a spotlight on the deep division between America’s bird watchers and people who hunt and fish.

Racine King Salmon Fishing

This video nicely shows the Dipsy Diver on the line while they are hauling in the salmon. Salmon have sharp needle-like teeth and thrash strongly so they must be subdued once they are netted. This video shows that process too but I wouldn't recommend you do it the way it's done in this video. Ouch! LOL!

Maybe The Little Ones are Better

A blog entry about the Dipsy Diver.

This blogger considers her Dipsy Diver and wonders if maybe the little ones are better, especially in Arizona.
